Learning To Be Patient
61Gaining patience will help you be more at peace and a calmer person. It will improve the lives of others around you, as well as your own. It doesn't have to be difficult to learn to have patience, or to expand your level of patience.
Even if you think you have a lot of patience, there are sure to be a few things that push your limits. These are areas that you can still strive to strengthen your patience in. Try out a few of the ideas below and become a calmer, happier, more patient person!
Everyone Is Unique
Are you accepting of yourself and others? When you compare yourself to others, you will often find disappointment. And yet, it is human nature to do so. You will find that if you can accept others, as well as accepting yourself, you will gain newfound patience. Learn to seek out the differences in other people, and notice what their special talents are.
Teach Others To Keep Yourself Calm
Perhaps there are times when you think you could do a better job than someone else. It can be easy to get frustrated with them in this situation. Instead of letting those emotions fester inside of you, try teaching them what you know about it instead. When you take the time to teach others, everyone will benefit. Lend a helping hand in order to help them develop their skill. Teach others instead of resorting to anger and frustration! Helping others makes it a nicer situation for everyone involved in the long run, and all it takes is the patience to help others with the little tasks.
Think Before You Act
Acting out of frustration is a fairly normal response, but it doesn't have to be yours. You can learn how to stop and think through how you will respond to any situation. Don't let your habits make your decisions for you. Learn to think through your choices, and conciously decide what you want to do.
Make Time To Stop
Sometimes you may feel like you're at the end of your rope and fear that you may react inappropriately because of a lack of patience. In this case you can practice the "count to ten" rule. Tell yourself that no matter what, you can't react immediately to a situation. Take a deep breath and slowly count to ten. These brief moments may be all it takes to get you to act calmly and rationally.
Try a Different Point of View
Often when we look at things from another perspective, we find understanding as we see things we did not know. If you take the time to put yourself in someone else's shoes, you may come to see things from their perspective, and understand their choices. This can help you expand your patience, as you learn that everyone sees things differently.
As you learn to add these ideas into your life, you will find that you have more patience. Instead of frustration, you will start to feel more joy and peace.
